GAVIN FOWLER and AMBER JAMES open as TROILUS AND CRESSIDA for the RSC

19 October 2018 Acting News Amber James Gavin Fowler

Royal Shakespeare Company

GAVIN FOWLER and AMBER JAMES open in the title roles of Troilus and Cressida in the RSC production of 'Troilus and Cressida'.

Troilus and Cressida swear that they will always be true to one another, but in the seventh year of the siege of Troy their innocence is tested and exposed to the savage corrupting influence of war, with tragic consequences.

In the groundbreaking new production, Greg Doran stages a gender-balanced production of the traditionally masculine world of the Trojan War.  He also collaborates with virtuoso percussionist, Evelyn Glennie, to create a satirical futuristic vision of a world resounding in battle.

"...triumphantly informal performances from Gavin Fowler and Amber James as T&C..."   Dominic Maxwell, The Times

"...the central pairing... are cast and performed very well.  Gavin Fowler's Troilus is sweetly teenage in his affections, while Amber James (definitely the staging's highlight) is clever, stoic and witty..."   The Stage

"The central lovers are also well played with Amber James' spryly intelligent Cressida provoked beyond endurance by the naive insistence of Gavin Fowler's Troilus on her fidelity."   Michael Billington, The Guardian

Plays until Saturday 17th November 2018 at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon and will be broadcast live in cinemas on Wednesday 14th November 2018.
